- Procedure for Environmental Screening of Shallow Tube Well (STW): An improved and simplified procedure (the screening framework as envisaged in EMF has been improved) duly approved by the World Bank has been implemented in AACP to put environmental safeguard measures for its massive STW programme covering 19
districts of Assam. The objective of such screening inter-alia is to ensure that STW sites don’t fall inside sensitive areas like National Parks, Wildlife sanctuaries, Reserved Forests, Proposed Reserved Forests etc. In case any STW falls inside forest villages, certificate from the concerned Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) is required to be submitted. Moreover a safe distance criterion between two individual STWs (200 m) has been maintained in order to ensure that high concentration of STW and resultant Ground Water depletion doesn’t occur in future. A very transparent information exchange and reporting system among DETOs, ETO and EMU is being followed in AACP for efficient implementation of the environmental safeguard procedures.
- Procedure for environmental screening of Fishery development activity in farmer’s pond/community tank: A very simple and effective screening and monitoring framework has been adopted for fishery development activities under AACP.
- Environmental Assessment of Rural Roads under AACP: An environmental management plan for roads is being prepared by the EMU.
