BACKGROUND |

Initially notified as Project Implementation
Unit (PIU) on April 24, 1995 for World Bank-aided ARIAS and subsequently
registered as an ARIAS Society on October 23, 1998, as an autonomous
body of Government of Assam.
After successful closing of ARIAS, State Government notified the ARIAS Society on 04.10.2005 as PCU of AACP. Chief Executive of the Society is the Project Director. Agriculture Production Commissioner (APC) is the Chairman of the Society and heads Governing Body with Commissioners & Secretaries and Heads of Departments (Directors) of all implementing departments as members in addition to Finance and Planning & Development (P&D) Departments. Project Guidance Council (PGC), headed by Chief Secretary and Commissioners & Secretaries, Finance, P&D, and other concerned implementing Departments as members, is an apex policy making body of the Society. PCU is staffed with trained and experienced specialists in all relevant sectors as well as in World Bank Procurement and Financial Management Procedures in addition to a Social Monitoring Unit (SMU) to coordinate with NGOs. |
